BIG SUR PT. 2

*thrifted net sweater, vintage pants cut into shorts, DIY tie-dyed converse, vintage army bag from australia given to me by my brother, ethiopian cross pendant from bead shop in venice beach, bcbg sunnies from vintage shop.

the drive to big sur was my favorite part of the day. driving (especially along the california coast) with the windows down and music (this song on repeat) at full blast is my favorite and most beneficial type of therapy. i've done the drive from los angeles to the central coast more times than i can count, but this was the first time i had gone the extra 1.5 hours and made it all the way to big sur. now that i know how close it is, i'm planning on venturing up there much more often.
i'm almost finished reading kerouac's big sur, so it was definitely special for me to happen to go while being in the middle of one of my now favorite books.  as popular as kerouac might be, that does not lessen the value of his work. his written words are my first experience of realizing that my thought process and world view was shared with another human being and i am not alone. his struggle with the desire to be alone in the woods vs. his social alcoholic whirlwind lifestyle is something i identify with in the highest capacity.

it's always hard for me to adjust back to "normal" life after being on a trip like this one. it's so important to get away from it all and just be.

omg i'm having such a strange time after being gone for the last month and a half. it's odd. it is home, but i feel lost after being here a short time. like i need to drive away on a regular basic to stay sane. hope to hang soon. keep rock'n

Wow those seals on the beach!! I would love to read a Kerouac novel...for some reason I have only ever read bits and pieces of his writings. I just went to see 'On The Road' at this years Melbourne International Film fest, an adaptation of the Kerouac novel. I am very keen to read it now!
All the best getting back to 'normality' after your amazing trip! X

I totally agree. Whenever I start to lose my mind, I know it's time for a road trip. It's definitely the best therapy. You're beautiful Brit!

lovely photos. totally agree with your sentiment on hard to get back into the swing of things after a trip in the middle of nowhere.. & definitely important to just "get away and be" <3 cheers from NY!

Definitely a favorite book of mine, too. I just re-read it while on a cross country Amtrak trip and was delighted to remember that the book open with Keroac "crashing across that salt flat" in his own Amtrak private sleeper car. ...I wasn't so lucky :) but maybe someday I'll get out of coach. Thanks for the post, I love reading your blog!
